R.A.D. Self-Defense Classes

The Oro Valley Police Department proudly offers the Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) Systems, a free 12-hour program of realistic, self-defense techniques designed to teach and empower women against assaults and attacks. The R.A.D. System is not a martial arts program; it is a comprehensive course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training.

Courses are taught by sworn officers and civilian staff who are nationally certified R.A.D. instructors. Participants are provided with a workbook/reference manual outlining the entire self-defense program for reference and continuous personal growth. The course includes lecture, discussion, and self-defense techniques suitable for women of all ages and abilities.

Safety and survival in today's world requires a definite course of action. This program provides effective options by teaching women to take an active role in their own self defense and psychological well-being.

For details about the R.A.D. program, please contact the Community Resources Unit at (520) 229-5085 or CRU@orovalleyaz.gov
