Oro Valley’s Community Academy to focus on planning the Town’s future

ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (Sept. 19, 2024) – Are you interested in learning more about your local government and ways you can help shape OV’s future? Register for Oro Valley’s 27th Annual Community Academy.

This fun, interactive, and award-winning program offers residents an opportunity to learn and discuss topics important to the community such as water use, growth, traffic, and more. This year’s program will prepare residents to work on the community’s next 10-year action plan, known as OV’s Path Forward. Join Town staff and your neighbors to discuss topics that will shape the next 10 years of our community.

The registration deadline is Sept. 27, 2024.

Program details:

  • Dates: Oct. 3 – Nov. 4, 2024
  • Time: 6 – 8 p.m.
  • Location: Oro Valley Town Hall, 11000 N. La Cañada Dr.
  • Format: In-person preferred; online participation available.

Class schedule:

  • Oct. 3: Welcome & Overview of Your Town Governance
  • Oct. 8: OV's Path Forward: 10-year community action plan
  • Oct. 10: Town Finance
  • Oct. 15: Economic & Commercial Development
  • Oct. 17: Planning for OV's Future: Managing Town Growth
  • Oct. 22: Environmental Stewardship
  • Oct. 24: Parks and Recreation
  • Oct. 28: Water Resource Planning: Water Utility
  • Oct. 30: Roadways and Stormwater Management: Public Works
  • Nov. 4: Public Safety: OV Police Department and Town Courts

Participants who attend at least half of the classes will be eligible to graduate. The graduation ceremony, featuring a celebratory dinner and certificate of recognition, will take place during the Town Council meeting on Nov. 6, 2024. Graduates will be in a uniquely informed position to join a resident working group for OV’s Path Forward, or a Town Board or Commission.
